Six Events and Situations When You Should Give Out Your Business Cards
Business cards can be a very effective form of marketing and networking for your business and there are times when you should hand yours out to people. Many people make the mistake of being too conservative when it comes to passing out their business cards, and this can be a networking mistake, while others give out their cards even if people do not seem interested. There are some situations where handing out your business card just makes good business sense, and knowing what these are can help you market and network your business much more effectively.
Always give your business cards to new clients. Any time you get a new customer, take the time to have a conversation with them, and make sure to give them your business card in case they need to contact you. If clients are happy with your service they offer word of mouth advertising, which can not be bought. Having your business cards will allow them to have all the business information needed to make a referral to family and friends.
Hand out your business cards at conventions and other work related events. These events are usually work oriented, and a great way to network and meet new clients and business contacts. Many people leave these events with a large number of business cards from numerous people though, so make sure that yours is unique and stands out from the rest.
Whenever there is a need for your services and you become aware of the need, you should give the person a business card so long as it is appropriate for the situation. It would be in bad taste to hand out your business cards at the funeral for your uncle, but if you are a roofer and you meet someone who comments about needing a roof while at your cousin's wedding, you should give them a business card during this conversation.
Hand out your business card whenever you ask for one from the other person. Many times the exchange of business cards is a ritual, followed frequently in the business world. Ask the other person for their business card, and they will normally automatically ask for yours in return.
One way to get your business noticed is to put your business card up on the message boards that many stores and businesses have. This will allow you to use your card to reach an unlimited potential of people, and you may be surprised by how much business this can drum up. Consider the size of your town, and then imagine reaching a significant amount of these people with no costs involved, simply by putting your business card on the board.
Give out your business cards at job fairs and other employment related activities. Many people go to job fairs to find work, and while they are looking you can tell them about your company. It pays to market your business, and to think outside traditional marketing strategies to help it grow, and business cards can do this for you.
